Jess Leonard, Founder
Jessica Leonard has prepared meals in some of New York’s most acclaimed restaurants including Eleven Madison Park, Daniel and The James Beard House, as well as the Virginia Governor’s Mansion. However, it was Jess’s love for fine chocolate and travel that inspired her to create something completely unique – one chocolate bar with eight distinct squares.
In February 2018, Jess opened Miss Maude’s Bar of Chocolates with her signature ‘Why Choose?’ bar. Prior to entering the culinary industry, Jess spent 10 years as a financial analyst in Washington, DC and New York, including serving as a Vice President at Citi. Jessica is a graduate of George Washington University and received her chocolate training EVERYWHERE. When she’s not making chocolate, Jess is eating chocolate in all parts of the world.
In 2026, Miss Maude's was aquired by Gearharts Fine Chocolates in Charlottesville, Virginia; Jess continues as an advisor and brand ambassador.
Ashley Brooks, chocolatier
Ashley studied Culinary and Pastry Arts at J Sargent Reynolds and has been an industry professional in Virginia for the last 12 years. In addition to being a Pastry Chef for restaurants such as Buckhead's and Toast & Hutch, she has also been a regular guest chef and volunteer for Savor from 2011 - 2019. Ashley joined the Miss Maude Team in 2021. Her favorite bar is the Whiskey Business in dark chocolate.
Valeria Gonzalez, chocolatier
Valeria is a graduate of Johnson and Wales University and she has a certification in Nutrition Science. Her favorite Miss Maude flavors are hibiscus, graham crackers, hot toddy, and cheese fondue. Valeria's passion for baking comes from her love of bringing people together and spreading joy.
